As the name implies, High Plateau has always come from mountain vineyards in the Napa Valley, with different vintages showcasing the character and complexity of carefully selected sites. In 2017 we sourced Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from a famed, high elevation ‘High Plateau’ vineyard on Atlas Peak. At an elevation of 1,600 feet, this dramatic site sits above the typical fog line, receiving longer sun exposure perfectly suited for producing ripe Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2017 High Plateau Cabernet Sauvignon is a single vineyard, single varietal wine that was just too good not to be a single bottling. In fact, we have not made this wine since the 2013 vintage. The grapes were carefully sorted by hand, de-stemmed without crushing then sorted a second time using optical image-processing. Once in tank, the grapes were cold soaked for 5 days to extract maximum fruit character. The wine was aged in 100% new premium French oak barrels for 22 months before the final blend was assembled.
Crafted from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2017 High Plateau reveals intense aromas of blackberry and blueberry compote that are complimented with notes of clove, mint and sweet toasted oak. Silky and rich, the flavorful palate is supported by supple tannins and a firm structure, distinctive of its mountain origins. An epic wine that will satisfy any Cabernet purist.
